The Federal Government has intensified efforts to fast-track the completion of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano–Katsina–Maradi rail corridor, reaffirming its alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Engineer Funsho Adebiyi, gave the assurance during an inspection of ongoing works along the Kaduna–Zaria–Kano–Katsina axis, as well as the Kano–Dutse rail line.

He said the visit was aimed at evaluating progress and reinforcing compliance with project specifications and timelines.

According to him, the Abuja–Kaduna segment has already been completed and remains operational, while construction on the Kaduna–Zaria stretch, covering about 71 kilometres, is advancing steadily and expected to be delivered by December.

The Zaria–Kano segment, spanning 132 kilometres, is also on track for completion within the same period.
Adebiyi further revealed that work on the Kano–Daura rail line, estimated at 124 kilometres, is ongoing with similar completion targets.

He described the projects as integral components of a long-term national rail development strategy designed to improve connectivity and mobility.
He added that the Daura–Katsina section, measuring about 83 kilometres, is nearing completion, while construction between Katsina and Jibiya is progressing with expectations of delivery in the early part of next year.

He reiterated government’s resolve to ensure quality execution without compromising deadlines.
The Permanent Secretary noted that the rail corridor would significantly boost economic activities by enhancing trade, generating employment, easing road congestion, and supporting tourism and industrial growth across the benefiting regions.

He also stressed that modern rail systems would improve passenger safety and efficiency.
Despite the progress, Adebiyi pointed to challenges including insecurity, vandalism, and issues related to compensation compliance.

He called on host communities to cooperate with contractors and authorities, assuring that the Federal Government remains committed to building an integrated rail network that connects all regions and strengthens national development.
