The legacy of renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Almagili has been celebrated in Kano, with renewed calls for scholarship opportunities and youth empowerment through international collaboration.
The commendation was made by visiting Pakistani cleric Sheikh Nadeem Latif Attari during a courtesy visit to the palace of the Sarkin Sharifan Kano, Sidi Fari Abbas Adam.
Speaking during the visit, Sheikh Attari highlighted the historic contributions of Sheikh Almagili in spreading Islam in Kano over 500 years ago, describing his role as pivotal in shaping the religious identity of the region.
He appealed for increased scholarship opportunities for the Shurafa’u community, noting that similar support is extended to other groups. According to him, authorities in Pakistan provide special attention to Shurafa’u students pursuing education in the country.
Sheikh Attari further disclosed plans to establish a partnership with the Shurafa’u community in Nigeria aimed at equipping youths with vocational and educational skills to enhance self-reliance and sustainable development.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Elders Forum of Majalisar Sharifan Kano, Shariff Tijjani Ibrahim, welcomed the delegation on behalf of the Sarkin Sharifan Kano and the people of the state.
He offered prayers for the success of the delegation’s mission.
Shariff Tijjani Ibrahim also assured the visitors of Kano’s readiness to collaborate on initiatives that would advance education and development within the Shurafa’u community.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured historical sites, including a mosque and Islamiyya school established by Sheikh Almagili, which remain in use to this day, underscoring the enduring impact of his legacy.
In his closing remarks, Sidi Fari Abbas Adam conveyed a special message to Sheikh Iliyas Al-Qadri Attari through the delegation leader, aimed at strengthening ties and fostering mutual cooperation.
The visit highlighted the importance of preserving Islamic heritage while building strategic partnerships to promote education, unity and youth empowerment.
