Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the settlement of N32 billion out of the N48 billion inherited backlog of gratuities and death benefits owed to pensioners and families of deceased civil servants in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, who said the latest payment forms part of the administration’s ongoing effort to clear outstanding liabilities.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf announced the release of an additional N5 billion as the sixth tranche of payments, bringing the cumulative total disbursed so far to N32 billion. He noted that N27 billion had earlier been paid in five tranches as of December 2025.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fully settling the outstanding gratuities and death benefits, assuring civil servants that the long-standing issue would be permanently resolved before the end of his first tenure in office.
He also expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for their understanding and cooperation, noting that their support has been instrumental in the government’s efforts to provide relief to beneficiaries.
While congratulating the beneficiaries, Governor Yusuf urged them to make judicious use of the funds, as the Head of the Kano State Civil Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, and the Executive Chairman of the Kano Pension Fund Trustees, Alhaji Habu Muhammad Fagge, commended the Governor’s commitment to clearing the backlog within the first three years of his administration.
