The Kano State Ministry of Livestock Development has intensified preparations for a statewide vaccination campaign against Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) with the training of veterinary personnel and the deployment of a digital system for monitoring vaccination activities.
The state-level training, held at the Murtala Muhammad Library in Kano, brought together officers from the ministry’s Departments of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology as well as Animal Health.
Participants were equipped with knowledge and skills required for the successful implementation of the mass vaccination exercise.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, the Director of Administration and General Services urged participants to demonstrate dedication and professionalism during the exercise.
He said the ministry was created by Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf to modernise livestock production and enhance the sector’s contribution to the state’s economy.
The director stressed the need for accurate data collection and proper documentation of vaccinated animals, noting that reliable records would support effective disease control and future planning.
He also highlighted the importance of the ministry’s newly developed vaccination management software, which will facilitate real-time data collection and tracking.
The training featured presentations on PPR disease control, data management and the use of the digital platform. E-Health Africa also introduced an innovative vaccine transport carrier designed to preserve vaccine potency during field operations and pledged support for the ministry’s livestock development agenda.
Participants commended the ministry’s leadership for embracing technology-driven solutions aimed at improving animal health services and boosting livestock productivity across the state.
