The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Federal Government to modernise the livestock sector, enhance food security and create employment opportunities across the state.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, to the Government House, Kano.
The Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo who received the minister on behalf of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, said discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Kano State and the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to unlock the economic potential of the livestock sector and promote sustainable development.
He disclosed that the state government would work closely with the Federal Government and private investors to establish a modern abattoir in Kano.
According to him, the project is expected to improve meat processing standards, strengthen the livestock value chain, create jobs and position Kano as a major hub for livestock production and commerce in Nigeria.
Garo noted that Kano remained one of Nigeria’s leading commercial and agricultural centres, adding that the state government was committed to supporting policies and programmes that would modernise livestock production, improve the livelihoods of farmers and herders, and stimulate economic growth.
