Dembos’ Reappointment: Bako Commends Tinubu, Says NTA Has Improved

Dr Nasir Danladi Bako, former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has congratulated Mallam Abdulhameed Dembos on his reappointment as Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for a second tenure.

Bako, in a statement on Friday, also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reaffirming Dembos’ appointment, describing it as a demonstration of renewed hope in Nigeria’s broadcast media industry.

The former NBC boss said his professional experience as a former operational staff of the NTA and later as the chief regulator of the broadcast industry placed him in a good position to assess the performance of media professionals and chief executives.

He said Dembos had gradually improved the quality of NTA’s operations, particularly in sound, picture quality and content production.

“I must certify that Abdulhameed Dembos has gradually brought back a good measure of better sound, cleaner pictures and a greater level of higher quality content upgrade in news and programmes,” Bako said.

He, however, noted that more work remained to be done, adding that the NTA had made significant progress compared with its position five years ago.

“It’s not yet Uhuru, but NTA has moved numerous steps ahead of where it was five years ago,” he said.

Bako recalled that Dembos was a member of his production crew in 1991 at the NTA Kaduna studios, when he produced and directed a musical documentary.

He said Dembos’ work ethics and performance-driven approach were reflective of the professional training associated with broadcasting in the 1970s and 1980s.

Bako, who is also known as Kogunan Sokoto, wished Dembos success in his second tenure and urged him to build on the progress recorded by the authority.

“Congratulations, Renewed Director-General Abdulhameed Dembos,” he said.
