The Kano State Government says it will soon commence trial testing of the Thomas Water Treatment Plant after more than six years of abandonment and deterioration.
The 2.4 million litres-per-day facility, located to provide water to Makoda, Kunya, Danbatta and surrounding communities, became non-functional due to major electromechanical faults, vandalised power equipment and extensive pipeline leakages.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahiru M. Hashim, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying rehabilitation works at the facility were nearing completion.
Hashim said the ministry would commence full trial testing of the plant shortly after the completion of the rehabilitation works, adding that the restoration was part of efforts to revive dysfunctional water schemes across the state.
He also disclosed that rehabilitation works on the Joda, Guzu-guzu, Magaga and Faɗa regional water schemes had reached their final stages.
According to him, the restoration of the facilities is aimed at strengthening water supply and reducing water shortages in communities across the state.
Hashim attributed the ongoing rehabilitation projects to the commitment of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration to restoring critical water infrastructure across Kano State.
