The Kano State Government says rehabilitation work at the Goron Dutse water facilities is progressing steadily, with trial testing expected to commence before the end of September.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahiru M. Hashim, disclosed this in a statement on the progress of work at the facilities.
Hashim said the entire 15.6-kilometre transmission line had been inspected, with all identified leakages permanently sealed to improve the efficiency of the water distribution system.
He added that three major reservoirs with a combined capacity of 40.4 million litres had been fully desilted and ventilated, while the replacement of old asbestos pipes with durable steel pipes was nearing completion.
According to him, the progress recorded had placed the project on schedule for trial testing, which he said was expected to begin before the end of the month.
Hashim expressed optimism that the rehabilitation would improve water supply across the state and reduce water shortages, attributing the progress to the commitment of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf to restoring critical water infrastructure.
The commissioner urged residents to remain hopeful, saying the restoration of the facilities would contribute to improving access to potable water in Kano.
