Singer Market Fire Victims Urge Authorities To Fulfil Promised Support

Traders affected by the fire incident at Singer Market in Kano have appealed to relevant authorities to fulfil promises of providing financial support to enable them resume and expand their businesses.

The Chairman of the Singer Market Development Association, Barrister Junaidu Zakari, made the appeal while speaking to newsmen in Kano.

Zakari said the fire disaster had left many traders struggling to recover their livelihoods, despite assurances from various quarters that financial assistance would be provided to affected businesses.

He said the failure to fulfil the promises had compounded the difficulties faced by the victims, many of whom, according to him, were still operating under challenging conditions.

The chairman said the market association had made several trips to Abuja to follow up on the promised assistance, adding that it would continue to do everything possible to ensure that the commitments were fulfilled.

He expressed hope that the APC Governors’ Forum would also honour its promise to support the affected traders, noting that such assistance would go a long way in helping them rebuild their businesses.

Zakari, however, commended the Kano State Government for commencing work on the construction of roads within the market, describing the development as a fulfilment of part of the government’s promise to improve infrastructure in the area.
