The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of N50,000 monthly financial assistance to selected vulnerable Nigerians under its National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Bernard Doro, disclosed this in a statement dated Oct. 30, saying the intervention was designed to support vulnerable households amid rising food prices and the high cost of living.
Doro said the amount would be reviewed periodically, adding that beneficiaries would be notified in advance of any changes to the payment.
He explained that the disbursement was being facilitated through licensed digital financial service providers, including ALAT by Wema, MoMo PSB, NairaGram, OPay and Moniepoint.
According to him, eligible beneficiaries would receive text messages requesting their consent before the funds were transferred directly into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.
The minister said payments were ongoing under the Youth Economic Intervention and De-radicalisation Programme, adding that beneficiaries would be notified through their registered telephone numbers.
He advised individuals whose status showed “NOT SELECTED” to await subsequent batches, noting that such status did not guarantee automatic selection for the intervention.
Doro stressed that beneficiaries were not required to apply, pay any fee or register through agents to access the support.
He warned Nigerians against sharing their National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) with unauthorised persons, urging those uncertain about payment notifications or facing suspicious demands to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222
