Kano Govt. Launches 2023 Tree Planting Campaign

The Kano state government has cautioned the general public on indiscriminate cutting down of trees in the state , aimed at addressing the menace of desert encroachments .

The state governor Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf stated this while launching 2023 tree planting campaign exercise at Central Eid-ground located at Kofar Mata in Kano metropolis.Governor Yusuf represented by chief of staff to Kano state government house Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi s urged people in the state plants trees on road sides ,markets, places of warships, places of works, farmlands, forest reserves and other places with the aim of curtailing erosion and desert encroachment in the state.

He said the campaign which will last for 2 weeks will cover Amana City, Kwankwasiyya City, State Road, Ahmadu Bello Way, HadejiaRoad, Gwammaja Layin Bukar Makoda to Masaka Primary School, Unguward Dabai, Challawa Industrial area, GGSS Jambaki/Bela Erosion site.Others include School of Health Technology, Kano, GGSS Kuka Bulukiya among others. Stressing that seedlings will also be distributed to communities,institutions, Schools, Religious groups, Student Unions and worship centers among many others.

The governor added that the state government has put in place programs and interventions in addressing environmental challenges in the state.

In a remark, Kano state commissioner for Environment and climate change Nasiru Sule Garo said the state government has approved the provision of 28,000 seedlings to be planted in roadsides, institutional Avenues and community planting.  “Additionally another 1 million seedlings will be procured and distributed to individuals and communities across the State by Agro-climatic Resilience in Semi Arid Landscape Project (ACReSAL) which is a project under the State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change,This is all in an effort to regulate green house gas emissions and combat climate change action in our society.” 

“Similarly, the choice of Central Eid Ground is part of sustainable effort by the State Government under the leadership of Engr Abba KabirYusuf to ensure beautification of the praying ground and to also provide conducive atmosphere for worshippers,” the commissioner saidA

According to the commissioner all the forty four local government area would also provides another sets of seedlings that would be planted in their various domain adding that association of Kano Gardners has also promise to provides hundred thousand seedlings all of which would be planted in the state.
