The Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouq Ibrahim, on Thursday inaugurated the State One-Health Steering Committee (SOHSC), reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening multi-sectoral health coordination.
A statement issued on Friday by the Press Secretary to the SSG, Musa Tanko Muhammad, said the committee was established under the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) to review and approve proposals from the One-Health Technical Committee.
The committee is mandated to provide strategic leadership and oversee the implementation of One-Health initiatives across the state.
It draws membership from the Ministries of Health, Livestock Development, Environment and Climate Change, Finance, Information, and other relevant agencies.
Ibrahim said the One-Health approach—integrating human, animal and environmental health—was critical for tackling emerging and re-emerging diseases.
He expressed confidence that the members, selected for their competence and commitment, would work diligently to strengthen coordination and enhance the state’s resilience to public-health threats.
