A group of aspirants of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State has rejected the outcome of the party’s purported state, National Assembly and State Assembly primary elections, alleging serious irregularities in the process and calling on the party’s national leadership to intervene.
Speaking at a press conference in Kano, Wada Masu, on behalf of the aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders, expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the primaries reportedly held on May 21, 2026, describing the exercise as lacking legitimacy and transparency.
According to him, the claim that primary elections were conducted on May 21 raises fundamental questions because all aspirants were engaged in a screening exercise on the same day. He argued that it would have been impossible for valid primaries to take place while aspirants were still undergoing the mandatory screening process.
The group further disclosed that the party’s Elections Committee officially invited all aspirants to a consensus meeting on May 22, 2026, a day after the alleged primaries.
They noted that the invitation clearly stated that should the consensus arrangement fail, primary elections would subsequently be conducted. The development, they said, directly contradicts claims that legitimate primaries had already taken place on May 21.
Hon. Masu maintained that the sequence of events suggests inconsistencies in the electoral process and undermines confidence in the credibility of the exercise. He warned that such actions could erode trust among party members and damage the democratic culture within the party.
The aggrieved aspirants described the alleged irregularities as a threat to internal democracy, fairness, justice and the rights of party members to participate in a transparent electoral process.
They insisted that every aspirant deserves a level playing field and an opportunity to contest under conditions that comply with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
Consequently, the group called on the national leadership of the ADC, including the National Chairman, National Secretary, National Organising Secretary and other key officials, to immediately investigate the matter and provide what they described as a fair, lawful and lasting resolution.
They warned that failure to address the concerns could lead to further disenfranchisement of party members and potentially trigger avoidable disputes within the party ahead of future elections.
Despite their grievances, the aspirants stressed that their action was not directed against any individual but was motivated by a desire to protect democratic principles, transparency and due process within the party.
They reaffirmed their commitment to remaining law-abiding members of the ADC while pursuing justice through legitimate channels.
The group concluded by expressing confidence that the party’s national leadership would act swiftly to restore confidence in the process and ensure that fairness prevails in the interest of the party, its members and the wider democratic system.
