The Kano State Government has given contractors handling water supply rehabilitation and improvement projects across the state an eight-month deadline to complete the works aimed at addressing water scarcity in many communities.
The Acting Commissioner for Water Resources, Dahiru Hashim, disclosed this during an inspection visit to the ongoing rehabilitation of the Goron Dutse Water Reservoir, a major water distribution facility serving residents of Kano metropolis.
Hashim said the project forms part of the state government’s efforts to improve water supply infrastructure and ensure the provision of safe and adequate water to residents.
He noted that the rehabilitation work includes the repair of water storage tanks that had been damaged for several years, replacement of obsolete pipelines and the desilting of major water reservoirs.
According to him, the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is committed to resolving the persistent water supply challenges facing the state through the rehabilitation and modernization of key water facilities. He added that the government expects contractors to adhere strictly to the project timeline.
The acting commissioner stressed that the government would not tolerate unnecessary delays in the execution of the projects, expressing confidence that their completion would significantly improve water distribution and enhance access to clean water across Kano State.
