Kano Govt Says 55.7% of 1,557 Projects Completed

The Kano State Government says it has committed about N996.29 billion to 1,557 classified development projects across the state, with 867 projects, representing 55.68 per cent, already completed.

The Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Maaji Sumaila, disclosed this in Kano at an international press briefing on project implementation, distribution, procurement compliance and financial performance of the administration of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Sumaila said 654 projects, representing 42 per cent, were ongoing, while 26 projects, or 1.66 per cent, were at the award stage and 10 projects, representing 0.64 per cent, had been planned and were ready for award. He said the figures were obtained from the ministry’s project monitoring and procurement database.

According to him, the cumulative contract sum stands at N996.294 billion, while N695.196 billion had received Certificates of No Objection (NOC), with N444.747 billion in payment certificates vetted by the ministry. He said the vetted payments represented 44.64 per cent of the total contract value and 63.97 per cent of the NOC-approved amount.

The commissioner said the projects were distributed across the eight metropolitan and 36 rural Local Government Areas, noting that the metropolitan LGAs accounted for 598 projects valued at N299.36 billion, while the 36 rural LGAs had 653 projects valued at N287.90 billion. Cross-cutting projects accounted for N159.50 billion, while statewide and other interventions amounted to N249.54 billion.

He listed major cross-cutting investments to include road expansion, bridges, solar-powered street lights, traffic management systems and inter-LGA road projects, citing the Dakata-Yadakunya Road, Airport Gate-Triumph-Murtala Muhammad corridor, Katsina Road expansion, Kura-Kubarachi-Madobi road and bridges, and Janguza-Durum-Kabo-Karaye road.

Sumaila said some major strategic investments included the N113.19 billion mass housing project at Rijiyar Gwangwan in Dawakin Kudu, N24.77 billion Katsina Road expansion, N21.90 billion Modern Cities infrastructure programme and N27.74 billion Madobi-Yako-Kafin Maiyaki/Kiru Road intervention.

He added that about N22 billion had been awarded for the Rural Model City housing project covering the 36 rural LGAs.

The commissioner reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to transparency, procurement compliance, financial discipline and value for money, saying ongoing projects would continue to be monitored from procurement to completion.

He said the government would also prioritise substantially completed projects in the 2026 capital appropriation and proposed 2027 budget to ensure that public investments translate into tangible benefits for citizens across Kano State.
