NSCDC deploys 3,000 personnel across FCT for Independence anniversary

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 3,000 personnel across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to strengthen security ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

The FCT Commandant of the Corps, Dr Olusola Odumosu, said the deployment was aimed at protecting lives and property, as well as Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, before, during and after the celebrations.

Odumosu said personnel from specialised units, including the Arms Squad, Female Strike Force, Crack Squad, Agro Rangers, CBRNE and Counter-Terrorism Unit, had been deployed to strategic locations and identified security flashpoints.

He said security personnel had also been deployed to shopping malls, markets, motor parks, recreational centres, amusement parks and other public places, while undercover officers were conducting surveillance to prevent criminal activities.

The commandant directed Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to maintain heightened security within their jurisdictions and work closely with other security agencies.

He urged NSCDC personnel to remain disciplined, professional and respectful of citizens, warning against harassment, intimidation and accidental discharge.

Odumosu also called on FCT residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to security agencies.

He warned criminals and vandals to stay away from Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, assuring residents that the NSCDC was prepared to ensure a peaceful and secure Independence Anniversary celebration.
