Bayero University, Kano (BUK), says it has received N1.241 billion from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as institutional charges for 10,617 undergraduate students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The university disclosed this in a letter addressed to the Managing Director of NELFUND and signed by its Registrar, Malam Haruna Aliyu.
According to the letter, dated May 22, 2026, the funds were received by the university on April 30, 2026.
Aliyu acknowledged receipt of the sum of N1,241,414,100, stating that it represented institutional charges for 10,617 undergraduate students captured under the NELFUND scheme.
“I am pleased to acknowledge that on April 30, 2026, Bayero University, Kano, received the sum of One Billion Two Hundred and Forty-One Million Four Hundred and Fourteen Thousand One Hundred Naira (N1,241,414,100.00) only,” the registrar stated.
He explained that the payment covered institutional charges for eligible undergraduate students benefiting from the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.
Aliyu expressed appreciation to NELFUND for its continued support and cooperation in facilitating access to higher education for Nigerian students.
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund was established by the Federal Government to provide financial assistance to eligible students in tertiary institutions across the country, with the aim of improving access to higher education and easing the financial burden on students and their families.
