FGN/IFAD- VCDP, Taraba govt. move to boost personal hygiene for people with special needs

The Federal Government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)’s Assisted Value Chain Development Programme VCDP (Additional Financing) has commenced moves to strengthen personal hygiene practices among people with special needs.

This is done in collaboration with the Taraba state government through the Ministry of Social Justice, Ministry of Social Development and Human Services, and the Department of Public Health, Taraba State University.

Speaking during the life-skills training workshop on Saturday in Jalingo, Taraba state commissioner for Social Justice, Dr. Felister Irarimam, and that of Social Development and Human Services Hon. Shonzen J. Bernard, informed that the initiative was to encourage personal hygiene and other health related issues among persons with special needs.

According to the duo, the idea was also aimed at improving their knowledge and practices on personal hygiene.

The commissioners also disclosed that governor Agbu Kefas’ administration was working closely with relevant health agencies to ensure that people with special needs receive basic training on personal hygiene practices, while strengthening the general hygiene practice among citizens in the state.

“This initiative is the governor Agbu Kefas continues effort to strengthen hygiene practices among people with special needs. The aim is to adequately educate, equip them with skills on personal hygiene practices and other health related issues”. The commissioners stated.

Meanwhile the IFAD VCDP, state programme Coordinator, Irimiya Musa, repressed by the Director of Administration, Bulus Maiyaki, encouraged participants to use the knowledge acquired during the skills training to maintain their personal hygiene.

He expressed IFAD VCDP (Additional Financing) commitment to supporting people with special needs, saying their personal hygiene requires deliberate support to be sustained.

In his vote of thanks, leader of people with special needs Taraba State, Mr. Ali Matudi, commended IFAD VCDP and other collaborating institutions for organising the programme.

He described the programme as a genuine concern by the organisers toward ensuring a healthy living of people with special needs.
