Kano Govt Suspends Durbar, Horse-Riding Activities Over Security Concerns

The Kano State Government has suspended all Durbar processions and horse-riding activities within the Kano metropolis over security concerns.

The restriction followed an emergency meeting of the State Security Council held at the Government House, Kano, where the security situation surrounding the planned activities was reviewed.

A statement by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Mr Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the council took the decision as a precautionary measure to prevent possible clashes, loss of lives and damage to property.

The government said security assessments indicated significant mobilisation of supporters in connection with the planned activities, raising concerns over possible confrontations and a breakdown of law and order.

It directed all relevant security agencies to enforce the restriction and take appropriate lawful action against anyone found violating the directive.

The government appealed to residents, traditional institutions, political actors, supporters and other stakeholders to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding, assuring residents that measures were being taken to protect lives and property.

The restriction takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
