Ensuring the passage and implementation of the Girl Child Policy in Kano State has been described as a way forward in improving girl child education in the State.
Director of the Center for gender studies Bayero University Kano Dr. Suawiba Sa’id disclosed this during a validation exercise organized by PLANE for stakeholders in Kano.
She said the Validation meeting aimed to brainstorm modalities for ensuring that the girl-child education policy sees the light of day.
Dr. Suwaiba Said explained that the policy will play a great impact on the girl’s child education because it entails right from the enrollment of the girl child up to the transition.
” the policy covers everything that has to do with the girl child, the security, curriculum, and what have you all geared towards enhancing the girl child education”
She added that the validation meeting would pave the way for all the needed corrections to be inserted in the policy before final submission to the government, saying PLANE was assisting the government in ensuring that the stated objectives were being achieved.
In her remark, the coordinator of Girls Education Kano State Ministry of Education Hajiya Amina Kasim said the meeting was very timely.
She said the Kano state government was committed to enhancing the girl child education, saying the state government had provided a budget line on the girl child education to improve the girl child education in Kano State.
Earlier safiyanu bichi from the girl education partnership said civil society organizations in Kano have been advocating for a policy for the girl child, saying when implemented the policy would address numerous challenges mitigating against girl child education.
