The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to revitalising Gum Arabic farming in Nigeria as part of efforts to boost agricultural production and economic development.
The Desk Officer, Gum Arabic Value Chain, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Gideon Dangunduro, stated this during a capacity-building training programme organised for Gum Arabic farmers in Kano.
Dangunduro said the ministry was working diligently to restore the sector to its former status and harness its potential for job creation, income generation and national economic growth.
He urged farmers to complement government efforts by embracing improved cultivation practices and increasing production to achieve the desired objectives.
He commended the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security and his management team for their commitment to reviving the Gum Arabic subsector, describing the initiative as a strategic step towards diversifying the economy and strengthening agricultural value chains.
According to him, the ministry distributed 25,000 improved Gum Arabic seedlings to farmers across the country in 2025 as part of interventions under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He expressed optimism that the programme would enhance productivity and improve the livelihoods of farmers engaged in Gum Arabic cultivation.
