Kano Police Arrest Suspected Drug Traffickers, Recover Illicit Substances

The Kano State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on illicit drug trafficking and related crimes, leading to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of large quantities of suspected hard drugs and cannabis across the state.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who said the operations were carried out in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on intelligence-led and community-oriented policing.

According to the statement, operatives of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), acting on credible intelligence, arrested two suspects on May 23, 2026, along Nassarawa GRA in Kano. The suspects were identified as Abdulsalam Muhammad, 30, of Hotoro in Nassarawa Local Government Area, and Murtala Sani, 34, of Zangon Dakata in Ungogo Local Government Area.

Police said the suspects were found with a Bagco sack suspected to contain illicit drugs. During interrogation, one of the suspects allegedly confessed that the sack contained tramadol supplied by two accomplices who are currently at large.

A search conducted on the sack reportedly led to the recovery of 23 rolls of tramadol, each containing 10 packs. The police added that investigations were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover more exhibits.

In another operation, officers attached to Gezawa Police Division arrested a suspected drug dealer, Sama’ila Ado, 40, from Dabi Village in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State. He was apprehended at Bangare Village while allegedly selling substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

The Command said 130 wraps and half a block of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis were recovered from the suspect, adding that the case would be charged before a Magistrate Court after investigations.

Similarly, police operatives attached to Gezawa Division arrested Umar Salisu, 25, of Yunbu Village in Gabasawa Local Government Area, at Gezawa Mesanda black spot. Recovered from him were 10 wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa and two bottles of rubber solution.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and dedication to duty.

He also appreciated residents of Kano State for providing timely and credible information to security agencies, urging members of the public to continue supporting the police by reporting suspicious activities to security authorities.
