The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in Kano State has finalised security and logistics arrangements ahead of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency bye-election scheduled for June 20.
The committee reached the decision at a strategic meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano, chaired by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Amb. Zango Abdu, while the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Isa Mani.
Abdu stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding the electoral process and ensuring that eligible voters exercise their civic rights without fear or intimidation.
He disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had concluded all necessary preparations for the conduct of the bye-election and commended security agencies for their professionalism and support.
Representing the police commissioner, Mani reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to providing a secure environment for the election.
He said comprehensive deployment plans had been mapped out to cover polling units, collation centres and critical infrastructure across Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas, adding that the security situation in Kano State remained stable.
The committee also reviewed threat assessments, approved rapid response mechanisms and reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on electoral violence, vote buying and other electoral malpractices. It assured residents of adequate security throughout the electoral process and urged eligible voters to come out peacefully to exercise their franchise, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
