The Society for People with Disability Forum says it has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, pledging five million votes from persons with disabilities (PWDs) across the 19 northern states.
The National President of the forum, Comrade Yarima Sulaiman, disclosed this at an event in Kano organised to express support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, alongside an endorsement of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for a second term.
Sulaiman said the endorsement represented the position of the forum’s members across the 19 northern states, adding that the group believed the All Progressives Congress (APC) had delivered on its promises.
He said the forum was committed to mobilising its members to support Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Also speaking, the Kano State Chairman of the society, Saadu Ibrahim Gezawa, described the group’s support for Tinubu and Governor Yusuf as unwavering.
Gezawa said persons with disabilities across the 19 northern states, alongside their loved ones, would participate in the elections and support the candidates endorsed by the forum.
In his remarks, Gov. Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi HOD, said his administration accorded priority to the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
He said PWDs played important roles in the development of Kano State and Nigeria, stressing that inclusive governance was essential for sustainable development.
According to him, the state government has continued to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities in government programmes, including employment, empowerment initiatives and skills acquisition.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to recognise contributions to the welfare and development of persons with disabilities.
