In a remarkable humanitarian gesture, the wife of the Jigawa State Governor, Amina Namadi, has sponsored a mass marriage programme for 300 orphans drawn from the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.

The initiative, coordinated by the Jigawa State HISBA Board, was formally marked with an engagement ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Dutse, where five couples from each local government area were selected as beneficiaries.

Addressing participants at the event, Hajiya Namadi, popularly known as Garkuwar Marayu, called on wealthy individuals, political leaders, and well-meaning Nigerians to extend support to orphans, particularly in the face of prevailing economic challenges.

She noted that many orphaned families are headed by women who struggle daily to provide for their households without adequate assistance.

She emphasized that orphans deserve compassion, care, and collective responsibility from society, urging stakeholders to prioritize their welfare and future.

The First Lady expressed gratitude to her husband, Umar Namadi, for his unwavering support and encouragement, which she said contributed significantly to the success of the programme.

As part of the empowerment package, the beneficiaries received dowries (sadaki) for the brides, cash support for the grooms, as well as furniture and other household essentials to enable them to begin their new lives with dignity and stability.

In his remarks, the Commander of the HISBA Board, Fa’iz Bashir, commended the First Lady’s compassion and foresight in targeting orphans for the initiative.

He noted that the programme aligns with Islamic teachings, which strongly advocate care and support for orphans and the less privileged.

Dr. Bashir explained that the HISBA Board carried out a rigorous screening process to ensure that all beneficiaries were genuine indigenes of Jigawa State, confirmed orphans, and had mutually consented to the marriages.

He further disclosed that the state government is planning another large-scale mass marriage programme aimed at supporting less privileged women across the state.

The ceremony concluded with special prayers offered by the couples, who sought Allah’s blessings and rewards for Hajiya Amina Namadi, Governor Umar Namadi, and the Jigawa State Government for their commitment to uplifting vulnerable members of society.
