Bauchi State Imposes 24hour Curfew in Yelwa Community

Bauchi State Government has imposed a 24 hour curfew in Yelwa Community, a suburb within the metropolis, just as the police calls for calm in the aftermath of civil unrest that erupted last night.

The State Commissioner of Police Umar Mamman Sanda stated this during an on-the-spot assessment of the area where the crises happened.

Umar Sanda said that preliminary investigation revealed that the disturbances emanate following a rivalry amongst the youths of Anguwan Yaya, and Yalwan Tsakani which extended to other parts of Yelwa.

He disclosed that two persons lost their lives, five houses were set ablaze and four persons sustained various degrees of injuries.

The CP who said that the Police will enforce the 24 hours curfew imposed by the State Government appealed to the the public for calm as the situation is under control.

He appealed to parents, religious and traditional leaders to work together in the interest of peace and report any suspicious thing that can result to further break down of law and order for prompt action.

In a speech the Emir of Bauchi Dr. Rilwan Suleiman Adamu represented by the district head of Miri Alhaji Hussaini Abubakar Usman expressed sadness over the event and charged communities in the area to learnt how to live in peace.

Dr. Rilwan Suleiman Adamu also advised them to obey the curfew imposed in the area with a view to bringing peace in the area.01

It was observed that heavy presence of tactical combined team of security personnel including the police, the Army, Civil Defence Corps were stationed in a strategic positions around the flash points areas to maintain law and other.
